Time to Wake Up!

As everyone gazed up at the fireworks last night in celebration of our nation's independence, I wondered what I have done to really contribute to such a celebration of freedom.  Yes I vote come election time, but what else do I actively do to have my voice be heard? This is my chance to take action by acknowledging my responsibility as a citizen and to have a deeper connection than just finding a clear view of the sky on the 4th of July.  With the encouragement from people who have come in to my life,  I understand the importance of my voice and the need to get involved. I hope I can encourage you to be active and pay forward the knowledge that was passed to me.

A couple of documenatries worth the time:

During a recent walk thru Union Square I was approached by a volunteer working with the organization Children International.  I had time that day to not speed past him in a hurry, which I usually find myself doing because I am so skeptical of handing over information to organizations on the street.  Of course the fact that I have such a connection to the care of children, I had to find out everything I could about this program. I made the choice that day to not just speed past someone who was volunteering their time in support of a child having a better life.  After a long talk the conversation turned into me interviewing him on how and why he got involved with this program. It is so inspiring to hear someone passionately talk about what they are fighting for and the light that comes to their eyes.  Needless to say his enthusiasm was contagious and I am looking forward to being apart of their organization by sponsoring a child. In the coming weeks I will share with you the correspondence I have with the child I am sponsoring.    It is a great program and for you skeptics out there like me, it is backed by the Better Business Bureau.

Here's to having a voice and using it!

Well I know what's right, I got just one life
in a world that keeps on pushin me around

but I'll stand my ground

...and I won't back down
